What external tools are available in Canvas?

Below is a list of external learning tools (sometimes called LTI, apps, or integrations) integrated with Canvas by Penn State. Although some may be visible in your course already, most are hidden by default, so you’ll need to expose them. Additional tools may be installed in certain courses based on school or department. For more about exposing learning tools, see the knowledge base article on how to incorporate LTI integrations into your Canvas course.

If you would like to suggest a learning tool for consideration and possible integration into Canvas, please submit an inquiry through the learning tool interest form.

If you are having an issue with one of the learning tools, you may report the issue to the Penn State IT Service Desk.

Turnitin is a web-based writing assessment toolkit which allows instructors to provide feedback to students through markup tools, rubrics, proofing tools and originality reports to detect plagiarism. Turnitin also provides peer review options.

VoiceThread is a tool that allows you to place collections of media like images, videos, documents, and presentations at the center of an asynchronous conversation. A VoiceThread allows people to have conversations and to make comments using any mix of text, a microphone, a web cam, a telephone, or uploaded audio file.

Credo is a library tool that provides reference tools to perform research at any level of study. This collection includes over 650 titles with particular emphasis on subject encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, and reference handbooks. Subject coverage is diverse and equipped to address all key disciplines.

McGraw Hill Campus

McGraw-Hill Campus is textbook tool that can link a Canvas course with a McGraw-Hill textbook. Grades earned in McGraw-Hill Campusquizzes and assignments can be synced with the Canvas Gradebook.

WileyPLUS is a textbook tool that includes practice problems and feedback, course content and educational videos, and gives students the flexibility to increase confidence as they learn and prepare outside of class.

Examity is a proctoring tool used for proctoring exams. Examity provides a flexible test integrity solution including live, recorded and fully automated solutions.

Piazza is a robust discussion board. Anonymity options to encourage everyone to ask and answer questions. Instructor endorsements of good questions and answers let instructors push the class in the right direction.
