TLT Virtual Office Hours

Virtual Office Hours

The TLT Canvas Instructional Support Team offers morning, afternoon, and evening Virtual Office Hours (VOH) for faculty and staff who need Canvas assistance. VOH hours are available from:

  • 9 a.m.-noon Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Fridays
  • 2-3 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays
  • 6-9 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays

Faculty can request a 30-minute appointment in advance, or “drop in” for assistance during open slots. Note: The evening hours are by appointment only. Please make any Monday and Thursday evening bookings by 3 p.m. that day so the team can prepare for the consultation.

The sessions are conducted in Zoom, an online meeting tool similar to Adobe Connect, and are available for faculty at all locations.

What kinds of help can faculty get?

Virtual Office Hour sessions are not for course training, but they are designed to help faculty with such topics as:

  • How to do I get started with migrating my course?
  • I have begun converting my course, but I’m running into some issues. Can you help?
  • Is this the best way to design my course in Canvas?
  • I’m trying to create a master course, but do I need one?
  • Does it make sense for me to start my course fresh in Canvas?

Faculty requesting assistance that requires more time than a 30-minute session can schedule a future session or continue the conversation at the next available session. In some cases, the support team may connect faculty with other resources.

How can faculty request a session?

To request a Virtual Office Hour session, visit https://tltcanvasinstructionalteam.youcanbook.me/. When requesting a time slot, faculty will be asked to provide the course ID, their campus and a description of what they need assistance with in order for the support team to be able to prepare for the session.

After the request is submitted, the faculty member will receive a confirmation email and instructions on how to access the session with a Zoom link to the meeting. Faculty do not need a Zoom account, but they will be asked to install a plug-in the first time they use Zoom. The Zoom link is: https://zoom.us/j/4440082478

Faculty are encouraged to schedule time slots for the Virtual Office Hours, but “drop ins” will be assisted during any slots that are not scheduled in advance.

Faculty are encouraged to schedule time slots for the Virtual Office Hours, but “drop ins” will be assisted during any slots that are not scheduled in advance. The only exceptions to drop-in availability are the 6-9 p.m. Monday and Thursday evening hours. Those evening hours must be scheduled in advance.

Technical requirements

For the best experience in Zoom, faculty will need:

  • a reliable Internet connection
  • audio capability (speakers or headphones)
  • voice capability (a microphone)

While not required, it is also recommended to have video capability, such as a Web camera or built-in computer camera.
