Canvas: Disabling Personal Meeting ID when Scheduling Zoom meetings

Aug 24, 2021 | News

As a best practice and for optimal security, it is strongly recommended that users do not use their Personal Meeting ID (PMI) when scheduling Zoom meetings in Canvas.

Your Personal Meeting ID (PMI) accesses your personal meeting room. Because PMIs are always accessible using the same ID or meeting link, anyone can join unless they’re properly secured. Disabling the use of your Personal Meeting ID (PMI) reduces that risk, and it’s best practice to avoid using your PMI for meetings with people you do not meet regularly and for back-to-back meetings.

Here are a few steps to ensure that your Personal Meeting ID (PMI) is not automatically selected when scheduling a Zoom meeting in Canvas:

  1. Go to your Zoom settings
  2. Under the ‘Schedule Meeting’ options, disable ‘Use Personal Meeting ID (PMI) when scheduling a meeting.’
  3. In Canvas, when scheduling a Zoom meeting, under ‘Meeting ID,’ select ‘Generate Automatically.’ Make sure that Personal Meeting ID is not selected.
