Canvas Global Announcement Guidelines

Canvas is the learning management system for The Pennsylvania State University. 

Canvas Global Announcements are intended to provide students, faculty, and staff with information related to classroom technology and critical academic matters.  

Canvas Global Announcements should be brief and provide timely information about teaching and learning tools, classroom technology training and support resources, student academic opportunities, and other academic items of interest to the entire University community. 

Canvas is not a venue for events or public service announcements. If you wish to post a public service announcement, please contact the Penn State Strategic Communications Office. Announcements by non-PSU entities are not considered. 

Announcement submission requests will be reviewed by the Penn State Canvas Team. Posting is not guaranteed. You are encouraged to plan ahead and submit relevant announcements as early as possible.

The Penn State Canvas Team reserves the right to refuse, amend, or remove a requested publicity item at their discretion. Announcement requests will be assessed by the Penn State Canvas Team based on the following guidelines:

Guidelines: 

  • Communications must support the academic or administrative functions of the University, and messages must be applicable to most University constituencies, including departments, divisions, or offices critical to the Penn State community.  
  • Announcements will run for no more than five (5) business days and will not be repeated during a semester.
  • Organizations will be limited to one announcement per week. 
  • With the exception of emergency notifications, last-minute requests will not be considered. 
  • Wording must be clear, specific, and brief. Text announcements should not exceed 150 words but may contain a link to a page containing additional information. 
  • Announcements for research volunteers, commercial bodies, individual student societies, or special-interest groups are not normally accepted. 

Request Process:  

If your announcement meets these guidelines, requests should be submitted through the Canvas Global Announcement request form no later than the Monday prior to the requested posting date.
