Penn State continues to support Zoom video conferencing through 2026

Penn State IT was recently asked about the future of Zoom at Penn State. Currently, there are no plans to phase out Zoom. Penn State’s contract with Zoom runs through December 2026.  

Although Microsoft Teams offers some similar functionality, Zoom provides more features designed for an academic setting. For this reason, we are not currently looking at alternatives.    

However, technology will continue to evolve, and we anticipate improvements to Zoom and Teams in the coming years. Enhancements to both platforms will be considered in our ongoing evaluations to reduce service duplications and find cost savings where appropriate. Should any changes occur, we will communicate about those changes well in advance.
